About Us

VISION

International Peace Park Expeditions believes that meeting the challenge of the Paris Accord concerning climate change, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals is going to require a generation of conflict sensitive, environmentally sustainable, and culturally aware professionals in all fields to address our shared interconnected global challenges.

MISSION

to empower environmental peacebuilding through experiential learning

WHY CHOOSE US?

International Peace Park Expeditions engages, educates, and supports leadership development in conflict-affected communities through accredited academic expeditions, embedded fellowships and practitioner capacity-building expeditions.

We facilitate the creation of a dynamic collaborative network of professionals and students focused on environmental peacebuilding, transboundary environmental conservation and sustainable development.

International Peace Park Expeditions programs take a multi-disciplinary approach, and utilize collaborative learning techniques to maximize the potential of experiencing first hand the way the theory of transboundary environmental conservation and cross border cooperation actually manifests itself in the real world.

  • Dr. Perkins' research focuses on urban political ecology and environmental (in)justice. I study urban environments including forest, parks, and waterways to examine underlying processes that create uneven and deeply disempowering relations to nature within neoliberal forms of capitalism. More specifically, I employ a political economy perspective to delve more thoroughly into the complex issues of urban environmental governance in the wake of state retrenchment, where multiple actors assume responsibility for environmental service provision. I am also interested in the political status of nonhuman organisms within capitalist urbanism.

  • I am a cultural anthropologist that teaches Japanese language and culture classes in the dept. I also run our study abroad programs including ongoing tsunami relief work in Iwate Prefecture, Northeast Japan. I have been at OU for about 15 years. I really enjoy our dept. because we are so diverse. I am an OU Men’s Basketball fanatic! Let hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
